My Krewe for the day — Charlie Davis, me, Wendy, our daughter-in-law Gaby Post in the foreground, and that’s our daughter Mia and some of her friends up top. Just off camera are our son Raymond and Charlie’s wife Ellen.
There’s nothing more American than putting your name forward and asking your neighbors for their vote. So marching in yesterday’s Independence Day parade — as our country turns 250 — felt like exactly the right way to celebrate.
What a day. The signs and floats were great, but the best part was the people: neighbors of every race and creed lining the route, all celebrating the same thing — the simple joy of being free.

My good friend Charlie Davis posting my big campaign sign above the American Bald Eagle!
All along the way, educators stopped to tell me what their schools need. I heard them. Meeting those needs — for our kids, our teachers, and our classrooms — is exactly why I’m running.

My colleague Emily Soulé and I with the King and Queen of McKinley High. The temporary location of McKinley was a great staging area for the parade.
Happy 250th birthday, America. I’ve never been prouder of this community, or more excited about the work ahead.

Me and my wonderful wife, Wendy — I couldn’t do any of this without her!
