Thank you — four more years for our kids

Qualifying day — Wednesday morning at the Clerk of Court’s office.

Wednesday morning I signed my papers at the Clerk of Court’s office and put my name in for another term on the School Board. Qualifying closed Friday afternoon, and nobody else filed in District 9 — so I’ll be back for four more years!

I am humbled by your trust, and I will take this as a mandate to continue on as planned.

Thank you to the neighbors who stopped me in the grocery store to tell me what their school needed, to the teachers and principals who told me the truth even when I didn’t want to hear it, and to everyone who paraded in the July heat, put a sign in the yard, or wrote a check. And to Wendy and our family, who carry more of this than anyone sees.

Our schools are better than they were four years ago — the LEAP scores this summer said so, in every subject. But better isn’t good enough. That’s the work, and I’m glad I get to keep doing it.

Stronger schools. Real progress. More to do.

I ran to hold our schools accountable and put students first — and it's working. East Baton Rouge is now among the nation's fastest-improving districts. I'm not satisfied yet, and I'm asking for your help to finish the job.
